Overview of Hospital: North Central Bronx Hospital is a 232-bed facility in the Bronx supporting patients in a number of service areas, including primary care, geriatric services, women’s health, pediatrics and asthma programs. North Central is a member of the New York City Health and Hospitals Corporation (HHC), the largest municipal hospital and health care system in the country.
North Central’s Women’s Health Center offers a full range of gynecological, fertility management and pregnancy services, as well as special services for pregnant adolescents. The facility also offers services designed for the special needs of mature women.
The child health clinic provided at North Central focuses medical attention on children needed to stay healthy. Services offered include immunizations, physicals and treatment for virtually all ailments from the common cold to more serious conditions. In addition, the Children’s Health Center provides preventive services, screenings, immunizations and child development guidance.
Specialties: North Central Bronx Hospital offers the following for their patients and the community:
- A Level II hospital providing care to mothers and newborns at moderate risk for complications from childbirth.
- Designated by the New York State Health Department as SAFE Centers of Excellence, where sexual assault victims receive sensitive care within one hour of their arrival.
- North Central Bronx Hospital houses the first inpatient unit in the Bronx dedicated exclusively to the special mental health needs of the elderly.
- The Midwifery Program is the largest of its kind in New York City. Working closely with supervising obstetricians, the nurse-midwives provide care during and after pregnancy.
